The Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute (PBBI) is a center to enrich the connections between students and the Portuguese-American community, promoting the Portuguese-speaking world through language, history, culture, and influence. Through oral history collection and Bruma Publications, the institute will capture the stories, people, and impact of the Portuguese-American experience in California. Through the invaluable art of storytelling, connecting multiple generations to the history, culture, and perseverance of Portuguese-Americans, we educate and prepare Fresno State students in the technic and craft of collecting oral histories. The Portuguese Beyond Borders Institute is the hub of cultural, literary, and pedagogical resources to promote the Portuguese legacy in the Valley.
PBBI, through Bruma Publications, will create possibilities for registering immigrant experiences and the cultural connections between the Portuguese-American community and the myriad of cultures in our region, connecting our students through print and digital publications to the contributions Californians of Portuguese ancestry have made to the Valley and the State, as well as bring awareness of creativity within the Portuguese-American students and the Portuguese literature to all of our students through translation, will enrich our students and build bridges with the local communities.
The first publication will be out by February of 2023, the first digital publication by April 2023, and the digital literary publication every semester. Conference series ongoing with 12 events per year, available online and in-person, allowing our students and community, in general, a unique opportunity to learn about Portugal, the Portuguese-Speaking World and the Portuguese-American experiences.

As a Supporter, your donation of $50 can help us achieve the goal of building community through outreach to community organizations to foster more contacts between our students and the community at large, as the students do oral history projects and connect with the Portuguese-American experience.
With a $100 Patron donation, you will assist us to achieve the goal of building community through outreach to community organizations to foster more contacts between our students and the community at large, as the students do oral history projects and connect with the Portuguese-American experience and have more BRUMA publications available for our students
As a Pillar donor, your $250 dollar donation can help us in the development of tools to train Portuguese “language experts” to become community Portuguese “language teachers” in formal and informal settings (community organizations, libraries, church groups, etc.)
As a Benefactor donor, your $500 donation can be a part of assuring that our conference series and our Bruma publications projects will reach as many students as possible, allowing the students and the community at large to learn about the Portuguese-American experience in our multicultural Valley and State.
As a Legacy donor, you will assist us in bringing Portugal, the Portuguese Speaking cultures, and especially the culture of the Azores through translations, publications, presentations, and talks to our students and our Valley.
