Media, Communications and Journalism Day at Fresno State
MCJ Day is a fun, interactive experience for local high school students interested in media, communications and journalism. Faculty and students conduct workshops about advertising and public relations, broadcast and digital journalism, and film and media arts. There is also lunch, Q&A about all things MCJ, and fun networking games. We are fundraising to be able to cover expenses for the event, including food and materials related to workshop activities, which would help us continue to offer MCJ Day annually.
MCJ Day is a great opportunity for potential students to meet, interact, and learn from – and with – our current faculty and students. Current MCJers love to share their work and their passion for our department, and future students enjoy meeting them. When they see people who have been in their shoes succeeding, it motivates them to follow in their footsteps.
In addition, by getting to know our approachable, knowledgeable, and professionally experienced faculty, prospective MCJers become more comfortable joining our major.
The last MCJ day was in 2019, and the department is committed to bringing it back and expanding it to include even more potential MCJ students. There is not another opportunity ike this in the Central Valley for high schoolers interested in all three MCJ areas, and we know from past experience that introducing them to our “MCJ Magic” will be an integral part of re-creating the local pipeline of talented and creative students into the department.
Having direct and strong relationships with area high schools is critical to the success, growth, and evolution of our programs.
