Sight for Success: Empower Future Optometrists

We are raising funds to support pre-optometry club members in pursuing a career in optometry. Your contribution can help support the following needs: 

• OAT exam prep ($50 per student)
• Transportation to tour optometry campuses in California 
• Food and supplies for club social events 
• Merchandise for tabling events and club advertising

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:

This project will help students explore the field of optometry and aspire to become optometrists. There are three Optometry Schools in California and it would be beneficial for pre-optometry students to be able to tour the campus or attend informational events, however, funding for transportation will be needed. Having these trips would allow students to gain invaluable insight into what becoming an optometrist would entail. Funding would also be allocated to providing prep material for students that plan to apply to optometry school, which can significantly aid in their success on the optometry admissions test (OAT). Having this support would allow students to maximize their chance to score high and get into their desired optometry program. Furthermore, the club would benefit from funds to host more socials and create merchandise for advertising on campus.

PAST OPTOMETRY SCHOOL VISITS: 

On September 27th, some pre-optometry club members had the privilege to attend the UC Berkeley Herbert Wertheim's Optometry & Vision Science’s Optometry Preview Day. We are grateful for the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) for providing us with this opportunity. From this event, we learned so much about the program and we received helpful advice from current students. Seeing the campus was amazing and definitely helped students see if the program was the right fit for them. Your generous contributions can help us visit more optometry schools and can truly inspire us to continue pursuing the field of optometry.
