Physics Outreach Program

Our Physics Outreach service-learning course takes Fresno State students, who are preparing to be teachers and educate them on how to teach science in real-world settings. On Fridays (and other special days) we load up the Physics van with wonderful science demonstrations and we go to schools or community events and demonstrate scientific principles. What sets this outreach program apart is its emphasis on interactivity. Rather than passively absorbing information, audiences actively participate in the learning process. Through hands-on activities, they manipulate materials, conduct experiments, and observe phenomena firsthand. This interactive approach enhances comprehension and ignites curiosity and enthusiasm for science.

The Physics Outreach Program last semester went out to a total of 80 school events and 16 community events! This means Don and his students brought science to roughly 1600-2000 people in  1 semester.  In addition, the Physics Outreach Program has also been shown on Central Valley Today, KSEE24.

Your donation allows us to continue doing science demonstrations to K-12 schools and community events. Donations help us purchase materials that CSU Students will use for demonstrations such as Liquid Nitrogen, balloons, nails, wood supplies, gas, vehicle maintenance, and hardware to build our demonstrations. One demonstration the department has built is the bed of nails, pictured below, to demonstrate how pressure is a measure of how much force is acting upon an area. Your generosity empowers us to bring captivating science demonstrations to schools and community events, enriching the educational experience for all. Together, we can inspire curiosity, foster a deeper understanding of scientific principles, and create future teachers.
