"My role as a student assistant in the Viticulture and Enology Research Center (VERC) has been an invaluable part of my academic and professional journey. My work centered on exploring trans-resveratrol derived from Cabernet Sauvignon pruning waste has not only deepened my understanding of sustainable agriculture but also underscored the potential for innovative revenue sources in the wine industry. My experience as a student assistant at VERC has equipped me with unique insights into the application of agricultural waste towards beneficial outcomes."
-David Garcia, Graduate Student
The Viticulture and Enology Research Center (VERC) seeks to raise funds to update equipment in one shared lab. There are seven labs in VERC, two shared lab spaces, four labs utilized by individual Viticulture and Enology faculty researchers, and a director's lab. All VERC researchers and student research assistants use the shared lab spaces. At times, the shared labs are utilized to showcase industry-standard equipment to various classes. The Center employs 30 Graduate/Undergraduate students and four postdoc research assistants. We also have several volunteers and offer ten research assistantships throughout the academic year. These students gain hands-on experience participating in significant research in viticulture and enology. Graduate student David Garcia shared how his work with VERC has helped him.
This vital research prepares our students for a successful career in the viticulture and enology industry. We are reaching out to seek assistance in providing our students with exceptional learning opportunities. To achieve this, we aim to procure advanced laboratory equipment that conforms to the latest industry standards. Our current shared laboratory spaces are equipped with outdated instruments that no longer meet the high standards set by the industry. Your contributions will enable us to create a modern and cutting-edge learning environment where our students can gain valuable skills and knowledge that will significantly benefit their future careers.
