Garden love has been pouring in!

October 20, 2020

Hello Supporters of SECREd Garden!

We are happy to announce that our fundraising efforts have been quite successful and with just 11 days left, we are confident in our ability to meet our fundraising goal!  We are currently at 67% and can't wait to hit that 100% mark!

We want to take the time to thank you for your gift and let you know that since the launch of the crowdfunding, community outreach has reached an all-time high!  We have new supporters and have connected to many wonderful members of the Fresno State and greater community who are all interested in long-term partnerships!  We are humbled and grateful that our vision is being met with so much support and participation!

We have one last request as we move toward our deadline:  might you consider sharing the program with others through social media or email? We are also happy to meet virtually with members of the community that you think might be interested in the long-term goals and mission of the project!

Thank you for your time and support!

Sincerely,

SECREd Garden Advisory Committee

First Week Success!

October 05, 2020

Thank you for your support!

We have been overwhelmed with the incredible success of the crowdfunding over the last week!  In four short days we reached over 30% of our goal!  We are grateful for the continued support!

This project is important to us in many ways, namely, that many opportunities will exist for children who are traditionally omitted from early STEM learning experiences.  Why does this matter?  The STEM workforce is a rapidly growing field across the US and around the world, however, the field illustrates a significant gap in diversity across many STEM related sectors.  Women, Hispanics, and Blacks are significantly underrepresented in STEM fields.  Of those individuals that do enter the STEM field, they are consistently underpaid representing another critical economic gap (Funk & Parker, 2018).

Opportunities for children in garden classrooms allows for the space to explore, inquire, and solve problems in an environment that limits those barriers that are found in traditional classroom spaces.  Such opportunities influence a students' long-term interest in STEM learning and academics, thereby increasing the likelihood that girls and children from marginalized communities continue to seek out STEM interests.  This is important for a diverse STEM field that includes all voices, experiences, and varied expertise!

Please consider sharing our crowdfunding campaign so that we can continue to prepare for this wonderful space where ALL children can discover their love for the natural world through exploration, play, and early scientific inquiry!

Thank you for your support!
